<lj:music>Time is Running Out - Muse</lj:music>

I'm enjoying this album a lot. Absolution. I like the guy's voice. I'm going with a cross between Thom Yorke and Jeff Buckley.

I don't have much to write about tonight.

I loved Pan's Labyrinth. It was excellent.

I like Muse a lot. They're good.

I went to Friday's tonight with the usual crew. I won twice in MarioKart, then got beaten a bunch more. I swear i'm good at it, though.

I need to go. I promised certain family members that I'd be in bed early tonight.

Much Love,
John

PS,
Kristin, come home from Florida. I miss you lots.

    <lj:music>Into The Dark - Ben Lee</lj:music>

hey all.

So, Murderball was awesome. That's basically the gist of my last entry.

I went to bed around five last night. I listened to Joshua Radin to put me to sleep, and it didn't work. But it's definitely good sleep music. I just wasn't tired.

I'm listening to the cd that Lindy gave me at the party. It's fun. Ben Lee's accent is silly. I like it. It's uber-corny, but that's not always a bad thing. I think this is my favorite song so far, but I liked the one before it, "Ache For You," was good as well.

I hooked up my room with my GNX, my looper, and my V-Ampire. Now that all that stuff is up here, along with my MIDI keyboard, I can record some good stuff. I already recorded an instrumental song with guitar and strings in it. It sounds okay. Yay for garageband. I'll post it somewhere when I'm all finished with it.

I'm excited to go to the movies tonight. I called Sal, but he's already at school, so I'm just going to head over there by myself, unless anyone reading this wants to join me. I'm going to see Pan's Labyrinth. It looks awesome. I'm really excited. This will also set the record for most foreign films I've seen in a one month span, with Apocalypto and Volver being the others.

Been thinking a lot, and Jenna helped(?) by being really mean to me. Still not sure what to do. We'll see.

I'm going to head out soon. Maybe I'll update later tonight with some legitimate information or insight or critique. I still have to put together my top 10 movies of 2006!! Yikes. I'm going to do that either tonight or tomorrow. It needs to be done. I saw so many amazing movies this year. Should I make a separate category for documentaries? I saw a lot of amazing ones this year. And I love documentaries.

all I got.

Rock.

Love,
J. Jeremy Dodig

so, normally when i see a good movie, i'm like, "i'll write about it in my next entry."

that's off. i have to write it now. i watched murderball tonight. i finished it a few minutes ago. i was floored. wow. i think it was the best movie i've seen all year.

go see it. it's on dvd.

they used a moldy peaches song in it, too. not sure if that's good or bad, but i gave myself so many points for recognizing it.

movie was awesome, go see it.

jim sent me two tracks from the new arcade fire album. points to him.

loves,
john

    <lj:music>96 Heartbeats - As Tall As Lions</lj:music>

So. I have some really cool friends.

Kevin, Jim, and Kathleen threw me a surprise party, and there was a full cast of characters there. All of whom made me ecstatic. Some moreso than others? But I'm so amazingly excited by the fact that my friends are that cool. If you'd check my last entry, it says something to the effect of "I think I'm going to Pat Murphy's house this evening." Actually, that may be what it says verbatim. Anyway, I expected nothing at all. I may be the most unassuming person ever.

Apparently Jim tried to buy me the Old 97s poster from behind the counter at Tunes. For that, and for other reasons, I love him.

I was thinking about it, and this couldn't have happened last year. This is my entry from one year ago (Jan 12, 2006).

so, i watched like 4 more chapters/episodes of the beatles anthology again.. i'm on 7. there are eight total, plus a bonus disc. i love it so much.. i've seen it something like three times, but i learn so many new thing every single time. the first time i watched it, i watched it to get into the beatles.. it was right before freshman year started. now that i consider myself to be a moderate-to-extreme beatles fan, i've gotten so much out of it. and it made me super happy to learn that john, george, and george martin (produced all the beatles albums) all like rubber soul.. they all said it was deifnitely one of their favorite reords and that was awesome, cause it's my favorite. george also said that he sees rubber soul and revolver as being like albums vols. 1 and 2. i never look at it like that, but john and paul were just starting to really come into their own, and george's songs on each album were awesome. they're all too often overshadowed by sgt pepper, even though the latter is one of the finest albums ever created.

so, life is ok. i drove sooooo much last night. on my way home from dropping off dimarc, i put disintegration on and almost polished off the whole album.. it was amazing. driving is pretty much the best thing ever. i think i'm going to head out to tunes/the apple store right now.

hopefully, the remainder of this weekend will be awesome. i have mock trial tomorrow at 2.. and it might go later than i thought.. i'm frankly not very excited.. ok, i think i'm heading out now.. i got an A on my kilpat exam, which i'm excited about.

if i've been out til quarter to three,
would you lock the door?

from me to you,
john j.

Weird. But I was still talking about the Beatles.

Back to this party. It was sick. I didn't think it was for me at first, which is probably ridiculous, but I totally didn't. Thanks so much to everyone that showed up, and to everyone that wished me well but couldn't attend. I was so taken back by everything. Krappa Stacka John Dodig? Also, Jofe, that Buckley cd is awesome.

I kinda really like where I am. whenever I say that, something inevitably bad happens. Maybe my luck'll change. You probably know what I mean.

In a related story, I'm listening to As Tall As Lions and really enjoying it. Thanks, Last.fm.

Love,
Jhonn Doddig
(Based on Rhett Miller)

    <lj:music>Alphabetical - Phoenix</lj:music>

hey team.

So, in an effort to continue updating, I'm going to recap the past day or so's events.

Yesterday was the last day of exams, capping off my three-day midterm period, which was pretty awesome. I'm glad I only had to take five. Finals, I'm looking at a maximum of four, with the actual figure probably being nearer to two.

Last night, I went to the Rain show, which is a Beatles tribute band. They were really good, and it made me think a lot.

Now, I love the Beatles. I consider them to be my favorite band. I have every album they've released, along with something to the effect of seven tee shirts, posters, documentaries, books, etc. I've also seen the Fab Faux, another tribute band. I know them quite well. I've always considered myself to be a later-Beatles kinda guy. I love their old stuff, but I've leaned toward Magical Mystery Tour, Revolver, Rubber Soul, and Abbey Road, especially lately. At the show, they played the material in chronological order. They started with "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," and ended with "Let It Be." In terms of concerts, I think that they never produced better material than their first few albums, probably up through Help!. I might even go so far as to say that the Beatles may have been less successful had they continued to tour after 1966. Their stuff got weird. They delved into Pepperland and everything, but I do not think that the magic they created in the studio could have been replicated on stage, even with guest musicians. And the fact that listening to their old stuff was so cool is making me listen to their old stuff summore. I'm listening to Please Please Me, and it's so freaking good. So yeah. I mean, part of their popularity, in addition to being the best pop music of all time, was definitely made more interesting by the fact that it was so mysterious. The Beatles didn't tour. They were a bunch of shut-ins at Abbey Road who kept churning out these amazing records. They didn't try out songs in front of live audiences. They just laid down the tracks and sold zillions of copies. I think that made them more popular. Anyway, their old stuff is just better to listen to live. Give me "I Saw Her Standing There" over "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" live any day.

My now playing was a band Lindy recommended to me. That was the last track. It was awesome. I was blown away. Kinda dance pop, but too mellow to be dancey. I'm not sure, but I love the Beatles so freaking much.

Just one more thing girl, you give back your ring to me and I will set you free. Go with him. all of my life, I've been searchin for a girl to love me like I love youuuuuu. Causel et me tell you now. Every girl I've ever had breaks my hert and leaves me sad. What am I supposed to dooooo? Dude, they were always awesome.

So yeah.

I slept over Kevin's last night. He beat me a lot in floor hockey. Turns out I'm terrible. In a related story, we both woke up really late. Then I came home, took a shower, ate dinner, and I think I'm going to go to Pat Murphy's house this evening.

I wish I could play with the Beatles. I'd so be Ringo if it means I'd get to play just one song with them. That's be sweet.

Out.

Much Love,
John

hey team.

i'm actually in my hart exam right now. twentieth century american history. woot. father skechus us our proctor, and he let us take out work since everyone's finished the exam. i finished in like 40 minutes, but it was hard. 121 multiple choice questions. i just spent some time looking over my math material, which is what i'll be tested on next and last. i'm terribly sorry for the astounding lack of updates this week. my routine has been a gross spiral of wake up, take exam, get home, take a nap, study til morning, go to sleep, wake up, repeat.

i think i'm going after school today to check out Children of Men. I want to see it really badly. Clive Owen is so the man. Anyway, I think Shields, Kev, John Martorelli, and maybe Jordan are tagging along. It should prove to be exciting.

My currently playing is of Head Hunters, Herbie's ridiculous 1973 album. It's still open on iTunes from when I as listening to it last night, so I just hit update and it popped onto the LJ client. Anyway, it's a sickening jazz/funk album and I highly recommend it.

I hope Kevin likes the few thousand songs I gave him. Thank God for music sharing. I don't know where I'd be without it. I'd probably still be listening to Led Zeppelin or something. *shudders*

Okay, I'm going to continue being studious and tackle some more of les mathematiques.

I'll update regularly after this week is over. Oh! I'm going to see Rain tonight. They're a Beatles tribute band. I'm going with Jim and Kev and Kristin and I'm going to crash at Kev's. MAybe I'll bring my computer so I can update from there. Hmm. It's on. And i'll bring my rocking MIDI synth so we can record beautiful music. It's on even more.

Also, I'm Gmail chatting Mr. Deitch. Nobody's in his office. What a bummer.

I'm out.

Love,
John

so, I got the first season of Prison Break from my uncle for my birthday, and it's awesome. Um, and something gross just happened on the show. I'm officially weirded out. Yuck.

In a related story, I'm going to post pictures. I hope they work. And my LJ cut is weird on this client, so I'm not sure that'll work properly.

I just watched Interiors, Woody Allen's first drama, and it's amazing.

Last night was a lot of fun. Milkboy, where we saw Mr. Mullen, then Pat's house to play a lot of music.
Hello all.

I'm feeling better

I keep thinking about this thing. Call me cryptic, call me what you will, but it feels simultaneously awesome and awful.

I have to go se a movie with Jim Shields soon. For real.

Also, I totally lost my A in AP Psych by failing a test, but I think I may be able to pull it out with the review quizzes we're doing right now.

I'm watching Arrested Development (season two), and it totally makes me feel so much better. This show is a godsend. I can't think of a show that makes me laugh more. For serious.

I don't have anything to write about. I'd like for people to give me topics. Woot.

There is a world inside the world that you see. I love this song. Rhett Miller is crazily awesome. I'm not sure why he's not in my top 50 on Last.fm yet. Old 97's have rapidly climbed to like top 20. It's pretty impressive. Also, I love the Shins and I listened to two of their albums today.

My looping pedal is awesome.

Love,
John

    <lj:music>Timebomb - Old 97's</lj:music>

hey team.

well, it's officially my eighteenth birthday. what a weird thought. I was thinking a bit about what to write about this evening, and I think I'll do the obligatory retrospective thing. Hmm.

So, at this time last year, I didn't have a driver's license. How strange. All the kids I'm hanging out with this year didn't exist to me last year. I hadn't gone to hang out in PA until March 23-ish. Thanks, LiveJournal. So yeah, it's a crazy thing to think about. I was in a completely different place.

Spending New Year's Eve with Team Kath and the Jersey guys is a dramatic departure from my New Year's festivities last year, which included sitting at a computer all night. Yeah. Things are different in the life of John Dodig. I'm no longer classic rock guy, which is cool. I've realized that good music is still being made, and I'm really enjoying Old 97's right now.

I slept for eight hours today. I think maybe I should try to go to sleep soon if I want to function normally on my bday. The thing that kinda sucks is the fact that most of my friends are going to be doing homework all day. Maybe I'll go catch a last movie before break is over. I'm not happy to be going back to school. I'm not even sure what to look forward to. Exams are coming up, and they're never fun. Maybe a consolation is I don't have to take a midterm for journalism? So that means I only have to study for five? Nah, not much consolation.

I think i'm going to go watch Blue Velvet and then try to grab some sleep.

I keep thinking about other stuff. That would be pretty cool.

Night all.

Love,
John

    <lj:music>Makers - Rocky Votolato</lj:music>

Hey team. Nobody commented on my last entry, so I'm going to write about a few things right quick, then head out, cause it's so definitely 5 am. Jim and DiMarc are here. They're on my bed playing Halo on xbox. Yes, I do have xbox. I don't ever play it, which is probably why I'm so awful at videogames. Whatever. So, they're playing Halo. I got my wireless internet connection to work at my house. I successfully set up the router tonight, and it's so sweet. I think I actually need to go to Staples tomorrow to buy a repeater. The only thing I really need to know is whether or not I can use an 802.11g repeater with an 802.11n network. I honestly know very little about anything network related, so I think I may just buy it and see what happens. If worst comes to worst, I'll return it.

Also, I was getting gas today, and someone driving past, teenagers in a white Suburban, rolled their windows down and yelled, "RETARD!" toward my car. It really made me think. How freaking stupid are people? I mean, first of all, that's incredibly immature. The fact that someone is old enough to drive kind of makes me think that they're also too old to pull that kind of kiddie crap. I mean, that's actually embarrassing. Also, I hate that word so much. Whatever. 17+ year olds should grow up. That's why my age demographic is so hated by everyone. It's ridiculous. Grow up.

La la la. I need to leave. <lj:music>Ballad of Paul and Sheila - Mason Jennings</lj:music>

so, I really like Mason Jennings. A lot. Also, I got my iScrobbler to scrobble songs from my iPod, which is a huge win. Also, since the spark was lit last night, I listened to Something to Write Home About in its entirety tonight. I really like the Get Up Kids.

I went to Friday's tonight with Jofe, Kev, Kurt, and Justus. That was a lot of fun. Then I flew solo to the Ritz to check out Apocalypto, which I actually enjoyed. For a movie in Mayan (and minimal dialog at that), keeping my attention for 2h18m is pretty good. It was so violent. Mad Mel isn't really a shining example of subtlety, though, is he?

I love Kairos. I'm on my Photobucket and I see pictures from it. Wow, what an awesome time. I wish I weren't exiled from Campus Ministry. Whatevs.

I think i'm going to do my topical talk of the night, then close out with an LJ Cut of some sick Photo Booth pictures. Here we go. The Violent Femmes. Jim brought them up. We both love them. For those of you who aren't as familiar as we, Violent Femmes are a rock band who put out an awesome eponymous record in 1982. most of the songs are about sexual frustration in high school, which is totally cool and not weird-blink-182-esque, since Gordan Gano, the lead singer/songwriter, was in high school when he wrote the material. Anyway, they're the masterminds behind the song you all know, "Blister In the Sun," but the whole album's pretty solid (even though I really don't dig "Confessions.") I think the first four tracks are stellar. Anyway, their line up consists of a singer/acoustic guitarist, a drummer who only plays a snare drum, and a sick bass player who just fills constantly. Their stuff is pretty one-dimensional, as they don't have much choice with that instrumentation, but I love them. That, folks, was Jim's topic. SUGGEST MORE.

Here's those pictures I promised you. I like my friends. And family.

"> "> "> "> "> ">

much love,
John

    <lj:music>Good Feeling - Violent Femmes</lj:music>

okay, well. My Shuffles have been AWESOME. For serious. So so so good. I've been really lucky.

In a related story, I got my iScrobbler to send tracks from my iPod to my Last.fm, but only after I lost a whole Rhett Miller album and big pieces of the new Shins record (has it actually been released yet?) and Rockin' the Suburbs. whatevs. I got it to work, so I'm happy.

Anyway, I suppose I'll now move onto the topic that was requested by Kev. He proposed an entry about freshman baseball and the zero on T9Word. Should be interesting.

Kevin and I were both on the freshman baseball team in our first year at St. Joseph's. Anyway, I had never talked to him very much and assumed he didn't like me, as my self esteem wasn't/isn't all that high. We were sitting on the bus on the way to a game, and from the rest of the story, I'm pretty sure I was sitting behind him. Kevin was typing a text to one of his friends, presumably. I was already well versed in the ways of T9Word, the tying program on cell phones. This is the program in which the typer only has to press each numbr button once, and your phone essentially guess which word you'll type. It's a pretty awesome invention that saves a lot of time. since I had the girlfriend then, I did a lot of texting, and would have considered myself quite expert at the task. Anyway, I saw that Kevin was struggling, and so I was able to inform him that the zero button toggles between words in T9. (Say, for instance, that you want to type "home." The button sequence would be 4-6-6-3. This sequence also spells "good," which shows up first on T9, as it it used more frequently. Its programmers, in order to make the system more efficient, allow for the user to click the zero button to toggle between words. In this case, the words would be "good" and "home" [and also "gone"]). That's really the whole story. I told Kevin how to use it and we were best friend ever since. That's a huge lie. We didn't really talk until I dropped AP Vergil last year and we got to hang out in the lounge every day.

So, that's that. My most interesting story of pre-friends Kevin and I.

Tonight was fun. I went to H-town, and was followed by Tony, Kev, Justus, and Kurt. We went to Flanerch in Wayne, and got whatever we usuallt get at the big L. Apparently the owners are the same. Whatevs. I love Llanerch and it will always own my soul. Kevin Crenny and Lianna and Fleen were also present. I had fun. then on the way home from the diner, I picked Kristin up. It was good seeing her.

I'm actually listening to a new album right now that's really good. It's called Boy and Girls in America by The Hold Steady. I'd never heard of them, but Kev Kearney recommended them, so I thought I'd check them out. He said they sound like Born to Run-era Bruce. I don't really agree with that, but some of the instrumentation is the same. It's kind of a sped-up, less polished, louder version of Bruce. There are some nice piano parts and organ lines. And the guy's voice is different. Not sure if I mean different-good or different-bad yet.

For reasons unknown to me, my iScrobbler is backdating all my songs to about two and a half hours ago. I'm so confused on this one.

Okay, I'm going to sleep. Night all.

Love,
John

<lj:music>The Two Sides Of Monsieur Valentine - Spoon</lj:music>

hey team.

Tonight was pretty uneventful, but I'm totally keeping up with the updating once a day, even if my friends aren't reading and aren't commenting. That was totally passive-aggressive and I kind of adored it.

Anyway, I went to see Volver with Mike tonight. After we'd made plans, I called Tony, because I knew he'd wanted to see it, and strangely enough, he was headed to the same movie with Jenna and Melissa. Woot. So yeah, the movie was great. I really like Pedro Almodovar. And Penelope Cruz. Um, but that's another story. But the main storyline remains, and that is that she's very attractive. Whatevs. The flick was great, and I still love the Ritz. I got my momma Ritz gift cards because she said she wanted me to take her to a movie. Note the fact that I didn't just give her money to anywhere. I specifically engineered the present so that I could go to see a really food movie at an awesome theater.

I also knocked out some homework tonight. I polished off my paper for AP Psych, and nailed my Christian reading. King Lear was pretty much really depressing, and that's all I have to say about that. Now all I have to work on isssssss 1) finishing college apps, 2) a term paper for history, 3) a journalism paper. I think that's it, actually. Not all that bad. but the history is going to take forever.

I love this new computer so much. I video chatted Kev Kearney last night. It was awesome.

So, does this new HD-DVD annoy anyone else? I hate the fact that only like ten years after DVDs start to be produced, we're going to be forced to buy the new-and-improved model. I love high definition as much as the next nerd, but I'm not excited to start buying my fourth set of Star Wars movies. Seriously, dude. I don't like technology. Well, I love it. It's a love-hate relationship that's currently leaning toward the latter.

Neutral Milk just shuffled on. Neutral Milk = love. Catching signals that sound in the dark.

I think that's all I've got fr right now. Maybe some of my friends will.. you know.. comment? Express an interest in my life? I'm not sure. I wish Mancellino still rocked an lj.

The speakers are speaking in code.

Also, I've decided that if I ever want to be a really good songwriter, I have to be crazy. And if I want to be like Jeff Mangum, I have to read the diary of Anne Frank (who was not blind, sorry Randal) and form a creepy obsessive bond with her and write an amazing album and release it in 1998 to lukewarm reviews, then re-release it a few years later to critical (Pitchfork) acclaim and have it be the best selling album in its label's history. Sweet plan.

Okay, now I'm really out. this shuffle has been amazing. The Get Up Kids? More like The I Haven't Heard These Kids In Forever Kids. Perfect.

night all.

Love,
John

well, welcome to livejournal, macbook. this is where i write stuff.

this is my first post from the lappy, and i'm using this new (to me) client called XJournal. It's not really anything like my old Semagic, but hopefully I'll get used to it.

I wish i could use this thing wirelessly, but alas, my family is stuck in the past sans wireless broadband.

i recorded a song on garageband tonight. it's a cover of "strawberry fields forever." i adore garageband. I got a midi controller with the computer, and you can do some awesome things with the combo. i also got a monster iLink, which is a female 1/4" -> male 1/8" converter, meaning i can plug a guitar into my computer. it works really well.

also, this computer's really hard to type on.

i hope everyone had a good holiday.

nobody commented on the last post with a topic, so i really have nowhere to go with this entry.

night.

love,
john

    <lj:music>The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)</lj:music>

I'm going to begin this entry with a completely unrelated-to-the-rest-of-the-entry statement. I adore the Arcade Fire. I think they're one of the best bands currently playing. They're amazing, and I think they've written some amazing music. How I loves Canadian music.

Okay, onto this experiment thang...

Jim wants me to write about non-stick frying pans. I've decided to tell the story to all of you out there who have no idea what that's about.

I went to a Matt Duke show along with Kristin and Mary Healy a few weeks back. The opening act played "In the Aeroplane over the Sea," but that's neither here nor there. Matt Duke, as per usual, decided to improv a song. He asked for a topic to sing about, and the two responses from the crowd were non-stick frying pans and porcupines. As one would expect, he then sang an awesome song about non-stick frying pans and porcupines. More specifically, about hunting with his father, then killing a porcupine and consequently cooking it in a non-stick frying pan. Later, at our open mic at school, Pete Dugan did the same thing. I yelled out "non-stick frying pans," and he worked it out nicely.

I still love the Arcade Fire.

The other was the butterfly that Kevin and Fleen made at the big L. Hmm. Considering I'd sort of ditched the table at this point, I can't tell the story, but I'll describe. Kevin and Kathleen apparently had a piece of paper (I'm not sure what it was, but it said AMDG at the top, so it was from the Prep) and some ketchup found its way inside. The paper was then folded, and the resulting ketchup blot resembled a butterfly very strongly.

As a werid related story, I've been afraid of butterflies for a long time. I'm not so much afraid of them as I am kind of grossed out by them. It's pretty irrational. I'm not sure where I get it from.

As for my great iPod conversion undertaking, I have 251 songs (and counting) that need to be converted from 192 kbps to 128 kbps. This number was 1000+ a few days ago, so I'm working pretty quickly. After I'm finished with the 192 kb songs, I'm onto the 160, of which there are 1318 in my library. That part should be pretty unfun, BUT I'll be able to do it from my MacBook Pro. I'm so excited for that ish.

Okay, I think that's all I've got for the day. I've missed writing in this thing. I hope it's here to stay.

Keep suggesting topics for me to write about, unless you didn't like this installment. If this is the case, let me know that you think it's a stupid idea.

Merry Christmas Eve.

Love,
John

    <lj:music>Television - Venus</lj:music>

hello team.

i really don't write in this anymore. what a bummer. it's not that i don't want to. it's more a combination of not having any time and not having much about which to write.

I applied to Fordham and got in, that was nice. I find out from St. Joe's before January 15th. I just finished my apps for NYU, Haverford, and Connecticut College (I already submitted the supplement). I just have to write my essay for Dickinson, and then I'm finished everything. I'm excited to be through with it all.

I had my interview with Haverford on Thursday, that was pretty sweet. I actually enjoyed it. It was weird.

Last night was kind of weird. I was writing my essays for NYU and I got a call from Kev. He was going to Fleen's house, so I decided to go as well. He picked me up and we headed out there. As per usual, we ultimately wound up at Llanerch. As I probably could have guessed, people showed up. First Dan Ramspacher and Tom Murphy, and I was like, "Hey, this is cool." THEN, Alex and Dan show up, and then it was like a flurry of awesomeness. Jordan, Endres, John, Kev Comly, and SAM DEITCH all showed up. I wonder if this will show up if you Google "Sam Deitch." Now that I've said it twice, it just might. Anyway, it was awesome. Then after a few hours, they all left and I hung out with what was left of Team Kath and James and Dease. Jim drove me home and as a result is now grounded. Sweet work.

I watched Waking Life the other night. It was awesome. I watched part of Se7en last night. I'm fairly certain I've never watched the hwole thing straight through, and I think David Fincher is an awesome director.

This Television album is awesome. Jordan is responsible for its existence in my catalogue. It's called Marquee Moon. I highly recommend it. Also, he gets cred for wearing an awesome cardigan that belonged to Kev Kearney last night.

I maxed out my iPod, and as a result, I now have to go back and convert all the songs on it to a 128 bitrate. I'm honestly not sure what that technically means, but it has to do with file size and sound quality. Smaller, not as good. Honestly, I'm a music freak, but I don't think I'm much of an audiophile. I can't even telle the difference between 192 and 128. Anyway, I freed up almost two GB already just from converting. Jim provided me with that tip.

I really like alt-country a lot. I've been listening to Old 97's so freaking much. And Rhett Miller's solo albums. I reeeeeeally like both of them. And all the Old 97's albums I have. Even Drag It Up, which I've yet to listen to.

How about people comment on this with a subject they want me to write about next entry. It can be anything. Just comment with a subject and that's what my next entry will be about. I'm going to do my best from now on to update this every single day like I used to.

"Let the great experiment begin!"
- Dr. Tobias Funke

Much Love,
John

    <lj:music>Stars - What I'm Trying To Say</lj:music>

Okay. This entry is dedicated to my favorite LJ-er. Starvemyheart/Jenna, we miss you dearly, but I want to share your story with the rest of our shared community.

Jenna's mother received an anonymous letter the other day with screenshots of her journal. These excerpts were some of the more Jenna-esque ones written, and they were printed out from a Mac. whoever printed them was stupid enough to rock a full screenshot rather than a simple copy and paste, although it probably would have been more effective. Anyway, this anonymous person sent the letter to Jenna's mom (sans first name) and said they her daughter needs to be prayed for. Wow. So, Jenna's now decided to have the letter dusted for fingerprints, which, frankly, is the coolest thing I've heard in a long, long while. Rock on, Jenna. Thanks for posting.

Tonight, I saw For Your Consideration. It was disappointing. Then I watched the Budd Dwyer suicide and that messed me up a little.

I love Bruce Springsteen, and New Order, and Stars, and Radiohead.

And Cake.

I'm going to South Street tomorrow, I think.

Know what's pathetic? <lj:music>David Bowie - Future Legend</lj:music>

hey all.

well, i'm going to keep trying to writei n this. i can't start neglecting my livejournal now. I've already come too far.

So, tomorrow, I get to miss seventh period, as I'm going to help Ms. Brown go shopping for CSC. We had a horrible turnout at the food drive and only filled 16 out of our goal 150 baskets. Not good.

Battle of the Bands is going to be awesome.

Thanksgiving is also going to be awesome. This year, as every year, we're going to the the Uncle's in the Northeast. Woot.

I talked to Jim and Kristin for a long time tonight. That was nice.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been kind of surprised at the amount of work we've had this year. I haven't had all that much homework at all, wit hthe exception of AP English IV. That's a lot of reading and writing and everything. Meh. It's my favorite subject. I'll suck it up.

Tomorrow, Kristin along with I'm sure more than a few MMA ladies will be going to see Crime and Punishment, which is what our English class is going to see after the break. I guess she'll basically get a sneak preview. Whatevs. I kind of have mixed feelings on the book.

I got a new suit today for homecoming. It's awesome. And pinstriped. After that trip, I went to Barnes and Noble and bought booookkkkks. I bought The Truth by Al Franken, as I finally finished Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them last night. I loved it. I love satire. And if it's anti-crazy-right-wingers, all the better. Anyway, I got the other Franken book, Blink by Malcolm Gladwell (Yay Psych. I'm a huge nerd), and the new Chuck Klosterman book. I look forward to reading all of them. I still have to finish Fargo Rock City, though, before I get to the new one, which is called Chuck Klosterman IV, by the by. It's kind of just a collection of essays, but I don't read any of his columns or anything, so it'll all be new for me. I also got a crossword puzzle book, and a Deep Thoughts book! Yes, Jack Handey. And I've decided to try to close every journal entry with a deep thought, except I'm going to start next time since I totally left it in my room and it's two in the morning.

I made new playlists on my iPod last night. I made Alt-Country, Folk! (yes, with an explamation point), Hardcore and Punk, New Wave, Instrumental Rock, and Jazz. I already listened to a chunk of the Alt-Country one, and dug it. We'll see how the others turn out. Also, my LastFM has turned into weird alt-country-ish stuff. Lots of Old 97's, whom I adore. They're really really good. Whatevs, I gotta go finish some McGlynn homework. I'll catch you all later, team.

Love,
John

PS,
I think Diamond Dogs is underrated. I really do.

    <lj:music>Amos Lee - Skipping Stone</lj:music>

hello all.

it's been far too long. i really like amos lee a lot. and i just found out (from lastfm) that he's from philadelphia/cherry hill. pretty sweet. anyway, he was a deitch recommendation.

welcome back to john's livejournal.

i'll briefly recap the weekend's events. last night i went (i'm going to capitalize and punctuate properly from this point forward) to see Incorruptible at a church in Germantown with Cape and Sword. Well, with an abridged version of Cape and Sword. It basically ended up being AXB, Zabel, Will, and Murphy, along with Kev, Kev, Maddie, Sean, Chris, (An)Drew, Blash, and Jake. I think that's everyone. We went for dinner beforehand and then took in some community theater. By the by, Mr. Whelan was in the play. I like him a lot.

Then tonight Jackie had her homecoming dance at Eustace. I went to Kev's house, then went to Friday's with the aforementioned Kevin, Devin, Jofe, Kurt, and Terrence. That was nice. I went to Tunes and bought Satallite Rides by the Old 97's, Blue Sunshine by the Glove, and Monster by R.E.M. After that we watched The Life Aquatic and I went home. Then I had to pick up JAckie and like six of her friends from some afterparty in Mt. Laurel. Yay? Not so much. Luckily, I adore driving.

We had the revival of DT on Thursday. That was awesome. I was also sick, so I didn't go into school. That night, I bought the new Damien Rice album, 9, which I listened to this afternoon. Frankly, it's not as good as O, but I do like it a lot. It's more aggressive, but it's definitely a Rice album. And I adore Lisa Hannigan's vocals. I was also able to find an awesome Damien Rice show from Cork (which I think is in Ireland?) from 2002. I guess that means the show was even before his first record was released. He's coming to play the Tower next month. I think I want to go. But the Toasters and the Aggrolites are also going, and I'm not sure which I'd like to hit up more. I'd kind of adore a ska show at this juncture in my life.

La la la, I just found a stain in my shirt. That's not cool at all.

Anyway, it's been so nice to see my friends now that the play's over. I loved every second of working on Mister Roberts, but I've totally dug being able to go out again. I got to see Tony and Jenna and Dimarc and Jim and everyone at DT, and tonight was awesome. I don't know. I missed that a lot, and I'm glad it's back. When the play was on, that's kind of the only thing I was concerned about. I need to hang out with Kristin, though.

Speaking of, homecoming's creeping up on me. My mom just told me that Thanksgiving is this week? I was sort of blown away.

Oh! I just remembered, Come Up With Something Clever, Applebrain! has made it into the St. Joseph's Prep Battle of the Bands. I'm so excited. I feel like we'll do well. I don't know if people liked us at the tryouts, but the judges seemed to as they picked us. I don't know. Twice Removed was really tight, Grape was great, the Rock Torchestra was... big? and Secundus will be so much fun. I'm beyond excited.

I just put on the Old 97's album. I've yet to hear this one. I'm excited.

In a related story, I'm just going to close with a picture or two. Night all.

Love,
John
